Pepperdine Chancellor to lecture on traffic safety instead of jail
Pepperdine University Chancellor M Norvel Young, 59, will lecture full time for six months on traffic safety and drinking drivers as part of probation rather than serving a six month jail term for manslaughter. He was sentenced to one year in county jail and four years probation, with a $2000 fine, after a fatal crash on the Pacific Coast Highway near Pepperdine’s Malibu campus killed two women. The judge stayed the jail term until July 28 to tests compliance. Young must not drive or drink during probation and may not enter places primarily selling alcohol. A supplemental probation report will be reviewed May 28 to decide if he can resume duties at Pepperdine.
