Steamer Avalon Sold After 30 Years of Service
The steamer Avalon, a longtime Catalina Island carrier, has been sold by Catalina Island Sightseeing Lines to Everett J. Stotts of Artesia for an undisclosed sum. He plans to strip salvable material off the 69 year old vessel at Long Beach and may later convert it into a cargo ship for service between local and Mexican ports. Estimated salvage value runs about 160000 dollars.
