Hearwell Annexation Vote Set Near Heartwell Park
Voters in a 105 acre area south of Heartwell Park face a decision on joining Long Beach this year. A petition signed by 200 electors exceeds the 25 percent requirement for a special election, with 763 registered voters in the area. Petitions have circulated since April in the unincorporated island bordered by Heartwell Park Palo Verde Avenue Conant Street and Woodruff Avenue. The area population is about 1940 with single family dwellings. The city clerk will certify the petition Tuesday to the City Council and a hearing on protests by property owners will follow. If land valuation protests fail, a special election will be scheduled for next summer.
