Radiation Deaths Tied to Atomic Tests Cited by Paul Jacobs
Boston author Paul Jacobs in Atlantic magazine links two Air Force pilots who monitored the 1953 Nevada atomic test to leukemia deaths and illnesses among two more. He also cites civilians in Nevada and Utah areas developing cancer or leukemia, plus 5,000 soldiers filing VA claims. Jacobs argues more than 100 atomic plants pose greater hazards than tests and criticizes the AEC monitoring. He mentions Dr Edward Teller on reactor dangers and identifies Maj William Wahler and Col Marvin Speer among pilots. others unnamed. He questions causation and points to parowan, parragonah, pleasant grove Utah and Fredonia Arizona as towns with fallout-linked illnesses, without definitive proof.
