Colleges oppose UC merger under state board plan
UC President Charles Hitch and State College Chancellor Glenn Dumke testified to a legislative committee arguing against merging university and college governing boards. Hitch defended UC's independence and warned California cannot afford nearly 30 public universities while Dumke noted perceived equity issues between university and college faculty and the push to rename some colleges to State University.
