Mother seeks death for son in Mississippi gas chamber
Verna Smith, mother of Jimmy Lee Gray of Yuma Arizona, urges Mississippi officials to proceed with his execution for the 1976 kidnapping and murder of Deressa Scales in Pascagoula. The case, in automatic appeal, follows Gray's earlier parole and a trial where he offered no defense. The mother calls for a prompt, not circus, execution and recalls the child’s brutal death.

Legionnaires Disease Cause Found by CDC in 29 Philadelphia Deaths
Atlanta report from the CDC states a previously unknown bacteria linked to Legionnaires’ Disease caused the Philadelphia outbreak that killed 29. Most victims were American Legion members at the Bellevue Stratford Hotel. The pathogen appears noncontagious and of uncertain transmission, with studies connecting risk to smoking and possible air or water spread. Additional cases in Washington’s St Elizabeths Hospital match a similar organism.
