White Tie Season Nixons Honor Arms Aid Policy
The 1958 White House event featured Vice President Nixon and top officials at a white tie dinner for 16 senators and 12 representatives from both parties. Guests arrived by taxis and limousines, with the Eisenhowers sending invitations for an 8 pm dinner and a later musicale in the cast room. The article critiques U S arms aid policy, procurement practices, and congressional oversight, noting political factors in aid decisions and urging clearer distinctions between political and military programs. Regular Friday services at Temple Beth Sholom will discuss "Seeking Improvement."

Carrier Wing to Receive Safety Award
Lorng Beach's 452nd Air Force Reserve Troop Carrier Wing will receive the USAF Flying Safety Award Saturday for completing nearly two years of flying without a major accident. The trophy will be presented by Gen. Lery Smith, commander of the 4th Air Force, at a luncheon at Long Beach Air Force Base. The award is the only one of its kind to be won by a reserve unit. The judging considered heavy area traffic haze and ground fog, plus the wing's shift from bombers to troop-carrier aircraft. The 452nd, which won the Reserve Officers Assn. outstanding unit award last summer, is now converting from C46 planes to C119 flying boxcars.
