Six Baptists Held by Congolese in Refugee Crisis
Six American Baptist missionaries and their families, totaling 29 people, were arrested by Congolese troops while fleeing rebel held Kivu. They were escorted by U.N. forces to a frontier bridge near Ruanda Urundi, then driven to Bukavu. The convoy’s vehicles were seized. In Katanga, Congolese-Swedish U.N. guards repelled a Balubal raid on a train near Bukama, three soldiers wounded and several attackers reported killed.
