Supreme Court overturns Groppi contempt conviction
The Supreme Court, in a 7 to 0 ruling, overturned Rev. James Groppi's contempt of the Wisconsin Assembly conviction, saying he was unconstitutionally denied a defense. Groppi and about 1,000 demonstrators disrupted the Assembly over welfare cuts on Sept. 29, 1969, leading to his 10 days in jail.
