The second annual VW Lakers free throw event runs Jan 16 to Feb 24 with local rounds on Feb 25 and 26 and finals March 11 at the San Francisco Cow Palace. Participants, ages 8 to 14, will shoot from 12 to 15 feet and hope to top the season average of .860 set by Jerry West.
Ford Motor Co. announced a car switch for Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones. Jones will race a 1967 Ford Fairlane in the Motor Trend 500 at Riverside Raceway on January 22, replacing the planned Mercury driven by Curtis Turmer of Charlotte, N C. The Mercury will be driven by Turmer while Jones partners with Bill Strupp of Long Beach.
The Cortina, a Ford of England five passenger sedan, wins the International Rally of Great Britain and tops the World Rally Championship. It has secured eight European national road racing titles this year and dominates sedan ratings in five of seven US SCCA regions. The car sells over a million units continent wide and offers a 1500cc four engine, 8 horsepower, and a four speed plus optional automatic.
