California Plans Eight New Congressional Districts

Sacramento sources say California plans eight new congressional seats after the 10 year reapportionment. Los Angeles County likely gains three seats, including a central Los Angeles district and Roosevelt's Beverly Hills area. San Fernando Valley and possibly Whittier southeast areas are eyed for more LA districts. Orange County may gain one seat with Fullerton Assemblyman Richard Hanna as a possible candidate. San Diego County expected to receive one seat including part of San Diego.

Rezoning Near Plant Approved in Riverside Area

The City Planning Commission approved industrial rezoning of a land parcel adjacent to the Martin Decker Corp plant at 343 Cherry Ave for a parking lot tied to a $100,000 plant expansion. Decker says the move is needed to stay in the city. 100 workers are employed. A protest petition from 32 area property owners cited noise and expansion concerns. Another case, a Richfield 631 Corp service station permit at Second Street and Tivoli Drive, was taken under advisement amid opposition from 52 Naples property owners over market oversaturation.

Illness Delays Finch Murder Trial in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES UPI report notes jurors missed proceedings as illness delayed the third murder trial of Dr. R Finch and co-defendant Miss Tregoff. Trial adjourned for one day with a two week estimate to resume. witness and attorney attendance disrupted by illness including a key defense attorney. The case centers on the July 18, 1959, killing of surgeon Barbara Winess.
