Southerners Move to Help Kennedy
Two southern Democratic senators took steps to aid President-elect Kennedy's agenda in the Senate. Senator Russell B. Long sought to keep medical care and social welfare measures under review, while Senator J. William Fulbright considered switching committees to back Kennedy’s civil rights and other programs. The pace suggests a potential Senate majority alignment for Kennedy’s priorities despite opposition from some veterans and committee leaders.
