PG&E Seeks 18 Million Dollar Gas Rate Increase

San Francisco gas utility PG&E asked the Public Utilities Commission to raise gas rates by 18 000 000 dollars per year. The move would lift the average household bill by 2 or 3 cents daily for about 1 500 000 Northern California customers, and would raise total recent increases to 32 991 000 dollars. Company witnesses argued rising costs, higher taxes, and need for fair returns justify the increase amid inflation and supply costs.
