Spongberg Leaves Long Beach Council After 14 Years
Virgil H Sponsberg a 14 year veteran of the North Long Beach 9th District City Council announced he will not seek reelection to devote more time to family and business. At 67 he has led civic efforts since 1934 including bringing in a trained city manager and boosting park hospital and library improvements. He declined to name a preferred successor, though speculation points to Ralph E Corbett. He is a longtime church and civic leader, former stake president in the LDS Church, and active in Boy Scouts and local government groups. He and his wife Evhel have two sons and two daughters.
