Ex Long Beach Mayor Lewis to be honored in Masonic rites
Former Long Beach mayor Herbert E. Lewis, veteran of the Spanish American War and World War I, will have Masonic services at 2 pm Wednesday at Mattell's Mortuary. He served on the City Council during World War II and was mayor for the last two years of his term. Survived by wife Louise, he helped obtain upland oil and install shuffleboard courts, and predicted Long Beach would become a tourist mecca. He moved to Denver in 1923, returned in 1984, and was active in local Masonic and civic groups. Service Lodge 59 will conduct the services.
