Auto engineers map Panama City road survey drive
Four men in two carryalls plan a month-long field survey to Panama City to chart road conditions and auto services along the route. The project is backed by the Automobile Club and uses a four-cylinder water-cooled motor to power the vehicle as part of preparations for spring highway openings. James Toy announces a new Cortina model with a 64 hp engine shown at the Chicago Auto Show. Vauxhall Motors will launch a one liter class compact in the fall, smaller than its current cars. Triumph US sales rise 30 percent in four months, with 5,111 units sold versus 3,952 last year, says Martin J. Tustin.

Hill to drive for Thompson in Indy mile race
World road racing champion Graham Hill of England will drive a Mickey Thompson Chevrolet powered car in the Indianapolis SCO mile race May 0W. Thompson and sponsor Harvey Aluminum Co. plan an official announcement soon. Hill, 34, won the 1962 drivers title with a BRM Grand Prix car and expects a smooth transition to American oval racing at Indianapolis. Thompson has four rear engined Chevy powered cars in the entry, with Hill piloting one of two new designs. Thompson called Hill a great honor and noted the car’s size and power are greater than usual.
