Council Study Sets Tuesday on Subsidence Legislation
The city council advanced a 28 page draft for a state administered program to control subsidence with unanimous votes from both advisory and legislative panels. Three of six advisory members and three of five committee members attended roll calls. The measure, backed by Mayor Kealer and Councilman Desmond, heads to Tuesday’s order of business with potential for a favorable majority. Copies go to Assembly members Grent and Klockstein for distribution and to Gov Knight for possible call on the March session. The bill creates a subsidence abatement fund funded by state money and repaid from future oil tax collections, and empowers the oil and gas supervisor to enforce re pressurizing, via fault blocks or field-wide.
