U.S. Pension Costs Found Significantly Underestimated
A Civil Service Commission staff report leaked to AP concludes the federal government underestimates long-range civil service pension costs by billions annually. Current workers contribute 7 cents per dollar. the government adds 14 cents and general revenues cover deficits, with projected outlays rising beyond 11 billion in 1978 and the reserve shrinking without reform.
