The Port Help clinic staff accuse harassment of the state as Dr Joel Fort, head of the clinic, faces accusations of filing nearly 180000 in false Medi Cal claims. State seeks suspension of Fort's license and clinic from Medi Cal. investigators say about 359374 was fraudulently billed. Fort allegedly had work performed by unlicensed or ineligible individuals.
Los Angeles Superior Court studies ways to publish criminal sentencing data for public inspection. A judges committee, chaired by Judge Jack Goertzen, will evaluate a proposed sentencing form to be used by probation and sentencing phases. If adopted, implementation could occur in late January or early February, with concerns over extra paperwork and costs.
Rodarme Mitchel, 25, rode from Santa Rosa to Los Angeles and paid for gas and repairs after a breakdown. The driver abandoned him, but Mitchel recovered his suitcase with help from a sheriff deputy. John Cecil Matthews, 22, Sacramento State College student, was arrested for investigation into theft and auto theft.

Renato A. Bohol, 19, was arraigned in Long Beach on a murder charge tied to the December 16 shooting death of Jase Calvento, 23, in a Los Angeles drug theft plot. Witnesses said Calvento was struck by a slug during a confrontation at 65 Roswell Ave, leading to Bohol's remand to custody pending a January 12 preliminary hearing, with bail set at 75000.
California Highway Patrol reports speeding citations rose 39.9 percent last month from November 1976 with 4 673 citations issued to truck drivers and 103 341 to other motorists. In November 1977 the pace shows a sharp gain over the prior year.
