English training program aids Viet refugees in Orange County
Vietnamese refugees along the Orange County coast will receive English lessons and vocational training. Orange Coast College District at Costa Mesa will run a program for 250 refugees with 50 in vocational training and Coastline College will implement the flexible, campusless refugee-improvement program. The project is financed by a 149.0 contract with Orange County following a $201,000 state grant aimed at preparing refugees for private industry work. County welfare officials say the education role is not theirs, and $51,000 of the grant will fund transportation for classes in need.
