Promotion Due for One Astronaut

Washington reports that only one of the three Apollo astronauts returning from a voyage is likely to receive a military promotion. Air Force Maj William A Anders may be raised to lieutenant colonel while Air Force Col Frank Borman and Navy Capt James Lovell will remain at their current ranks. Officials note only one spot promotion is allowed per man and the cutoff is below general or admiral. Borman and Lovell may later reach star rank through standard selection.
