Kitchen Surgery Saves Woman
A woman’s life was saved when doctors performed emergency kitchen surgery to remove a piece of meat from her windpipe after a 2,600 meter ordeal. The incident followed a subway strike and broader transit labor tensions, with unions MBA and TWU involved in bargaining threats and a recent system-wide vote. Commuter chaos persisted from a Christmas Eve LIRR strike, spurring near riots at Penn Station as workers called in sick over holiday schedules.
