Suit seeks removal of undercover officers from high schools
The American Civil Liberties Union filed a suit in the Los Angeles Superior Court seeking the removal of undercover police agents from city high school campuses. The action claims agents solicited and instigated criminal offenses by students and seeks an injunction against Police Chief Ed Davis and Capt. Clyde Cronkhite to halt further public funds for such operations. The report notes a recent crackdown yielded 275 arrests, including 242 juveniles, on drug charges. Dr. Robert Docter, president of the Board of Education, said the board would endure the policy if necessary.
