President Carter will push legislation imposing a $1 million fine on any corporation that bribes a foreign official. The penalty would be the stiffest monetary sanction on the books, with corporate officers facing up to five years imprisonment or fines up to $10,000 or both. Carter urged Congress to curb overseas bribery, calling it ethically repugnant and corrosive to public trust.
