Younger Vows Fight For Pretrial Publicity Rights
District Attorney Evelle J. Younger vows to press for broader pretrial publicity in the Sirhan Sirhan case after the Supreme Court refused to hear his appeal. He warned courts will issue more publicity restrictions, warning of contempt threats but stopping short of disobedience. The Jan. 6 Los Angeles trial date looms as he urges a test of legal philosophy on free press versus fair trial. The DA and court repeatedly cited the Sheppard precedent on publicity and its impact on juror impartiality.
