Alabama Votes Today to Abolish Macon County
In Alabama a statewide referendum asks voters to approve a constitutional amendment to abolish Macon County. Negro leaders urge white voters to defeat it as white registration far exceeds Black, with Tuskegee Institute at the center of the controversy. The measure aims to alter county lines and shift population and land areas to neighboring counties.
