The Senate battle over extending anti recession tax cuts continues with Ford conditionally backing any extension only with $1 of spending cuts for every $1 of tax relief. Democrats argue spending ceilings are tied to a scheduled 1977 budget, complicating consensus as Roth and Bellman push for a compromise. The Senate bill offers larger relief for lower incomes while the House favors the $10 000 to $20 000 bracket, and a separate tax credit for new home buyers was approved.
