Suit seeks to destroy secret Alpha File on Watts youths
A class action filed Thursday seeks injunctive relief and destruction of the Alpha File, a secret Los Angeles Police Department data file targeting black youths in Watts. The suit alleges unverified, noncriminal data accessible via a special number, with about 200 youths named and potential access by teachers, employers, and officials. The plaintiffs include ACLU attorney Mark D. Rosenbaum and groups such as the Greater Watts Criminal Justice Center and the Western Center on Law and Poverty.
