Engineer urges higher spindle life in Sikorsky S-61
At a National Transportation Safety Board hearing in Los Angeles Sikorsky engineer James Hendel urged raising the FAA spindle life limit on S-61 main rotor parts from 2400 to at least 7200 hours after the Compton crash that killed 21. He noted testing shows a life of three to five times the current limit and suggested a 12000 hour maximum may be warranted. The spindle that failed had 7379 hours.

Huntington Beach man sentenced to six months for citizen band broadcasts
James F. Dilg of Huntington Beach received a six month jail term from Judge Charles F. Carr in Los Angeles federal court for violating a court injunction against operating 4 citizen band radio stations without an FCC license. Despite warnings and license cancellation, Dilg continued broadcasting in 1968, including in June July and November. He had prior citations in 1966 for unauthorized transmissions and other violations.
