Interleague trading in 1968 nears end with five completed moves and one purchase. The New York Yankees, unique for crossing league lines, made several deals including sending stars like to the Cardinals and Reds deals of prior years. Trade activity lists players, teams, and executives involved as the deadline approaches.
Bay Meadows may have forced Maris out as the Yankees sought an established third baseman after their interleague shuffle. Trades involved Clete Boyer to Atlanta for DI Robinson and Federico Olivo, Pedro Ramos to Philadelphia for Joe Verhanic, Don Lock to Washington for Darold Knowles, and Juan Pizarro to Chicago White Sox. Across seven teams and 11 players, 1966–season end trades totaled 31 players, with big names largely staying in place.
James Dreyer faces a slow start at Los Alamitos as a 10 dog field vies for the Vallejo Purse and Futurity action. The feature $1,800 trade races draw top reinsmen, with Dreyer holding a share of the winnings and jockey standings lead as the meeting unfolds.
Odds are low for a clear summary due to fragmented OCR. The meet features Dreyer guiding seven winners, with trotting leader Charlie Smith losing ground by nine. Mention of horses Whiner Larly Butt Bel-Mir Otho Man and others hints at a crowded card and post-race notes from a muddy track and special track merchant activity.
Race card shows Mackay ridden by Crosby with 119 pounds in the seventh event and Beatle posting strong figures across the day. The meet features multiple races including the fourth and sixth with substantial purses and a crowded field.
Miami AP Jorge Velasquez leading rider at Tropical Park and third in the nation received a five day suspension from Tropical Park stewards. The suspension starts Wednesday after careless riding in Saturday's sixth race. Velasquez has 287 winners this year, 21 behind leader Avelino Gomez, and 28 wins at Tropical with 16 more than rivals Moreira and Balsamino.
UPI reports at Bay Meadows Roy Yaka led in a three quarters length feature race as Triple Tax held a slight edge. The Hare surged, Prime Minister finished third, with other names such as Alex Perez and Bill Bowrey appearing in fragmented, unclear notes from diverse events.
Fractured OCR text lists names and nicknames with scattered phrases and labels. The fragmentary lines mention Dot Shannon, Bee, Pondswick, Rebelo, Ariel Abate, and various odd tags. It reads like an out-of-context catalog of nicknames, places, and clutter.
A compact wagering snapshot shows Mason's Specials and QEST BET Bardiva among notable picks with WEST CHANCE DET Loma Bar advancing to the third round. PREFERRED PARLAY Moolan Mable targets Daily Clockers Tip, while Ariel Man and Nett Clinner feature in nightly bet lines.
A dense list of personal names, nicknames, and possible betting or gaming terms appears. The text weaves together multiple individuals and monikers such as Shannon, Lotta, River Rebel, Ariel Man, Gold Red, and Mel s Luck with scattered notes that resemble groupings or card style annotations. The piece reads as a catalog of participants and references, lacking a clear narrative.
