California Population Shifts From Cities To Rural Counties
Demographers expect migration to shift California growth toward rural Sierra foothill counties and suburban pockets like Ventura and Santa Cruz. About half of future gains come from births, half from in state migration, with many moving from crowded northeastern states to metropolitan gateways and then to isolated inland areas. Notably, 180,000 to 195,000 may have moved to California this year, up from a 1972 low, as urban disenchantment grows among adults over 55.

Brown's distrust of nuclear power shapes California’s Sundesert fate
Gov Brown's firmer stance against nuclear power influences the Sundesert plant near Blythe. The $3 billion project faces state approval after 18 months with the Energy Commission to decide by December 21 on issuing a notice of intention. The panel's report flags San Diego Gas & Electric finances and proposes reducing its stake to 33 percent. Partners include LADWP, California Department of Water and Power, and Riverside, Glendale, Anaheim, and Pasadena. The commission must also rule in January on waivers for reprocessing and waste disposal, with possible legislative action blocked by Brown.
