Arctic oil spills could tilt Earth climate expert warns
In San Francisco a Coast Guard scientist reported that oil on Arctic ice increases sun absorption, speeding melt. An Alaska test spread ten gallons of crude on ice off Point Barrow showing contaminated ice absorbing up to 40 percent of sunlight and melting faster, potentially altering the Arctic heat budget and climate patterns.
