Amtrak hikes fares on most routes in 3 percent rise
Amtrak announced fare increases of about 3 percent for many eastern routes on December 15 and for most western routes on February 1 to offset inflation. Accommodation charges for parlor and sleeping cars will rise similarly. Some routes vary. Washington to New York coach stays $17 to $18 in conventional trains, while high‑speed Metroliner coach remains $23. Pan Am to sell Amtrak USA Rail Pass through its international offices starting January 15, 1971.
