Reagan reveals Agnew discussed stepping down to Cabinet
Gov. Ronald Reagan says Vice President Spiro Agnew privately discussed the possibility of leaving the 1972 ticket for a judicial or Cabinet post. He recalled 1956 talk of Nixon being dropped for a similar path and noted Agnew had not committed to any decision. Reagan said Californians are tired of Sacramento legislators and defended welfare reform as backing from 80 percent of the state populace helped pass it.
