Pressure Buckles Sealab Capsule Delays Project
The Navy reports Sealab’s deep sea mission may be delayed up to three weeks after an auxiliary hatch buckled at 500 feet flooding the unmanned capsule. CMDR J M Tomsky said repairs will require work on electrical equipment while aquahant training continues with a back up capsule. The incident occurred during a lift when a misalignment of the power cable caused a quick drop to depth. The pressurized operation will resume with the capsule on the bottom to prevent water entry.
