Artesia's early growth from vineyard to banking hub
Artesia evolved from Georges Frampton Sr. vineyard origins to a town with Pacific Electric Big Red Cars and Pioneer Boulevard development. The first post office opened in 1882, several banks formed by 1975, and a Sunday baseball team financed by J H Niemes fed local pride. Local historian Albert C Little notes cycles of panic, Depression, wars, and growth, culminating in better homes, schools, churches, and roads.
