Cruiser St. Paul Gets New Skipper
After a full dress inspection and eight months of duty in the Western Pacific, Capt. Irvin S. Harman was relieved as commanding officer of the USS St. Paul by Adm. Allan L. Reed during a ceremony in Long Beach Harbor. The St. Paul, commissioned in 1944, has logged more miles than any other heavy cruiser now in active service. Admiral Reed assumes duties as Chief of Staff to Taiwan Defense Command in the Far East.

Clouds and cool air bathe northern states
A weather summary notes cloudy skies and light rain across the northern states from the Dakotas to New England, with an Ohio Valley warm front lifting temperatures into the 80s and 90s. A Mason City storm delivered .76 inch of moisture while Florida and New York saw storms and a waterspout near Daytona Beach as trips to Europe are awarded in a dealer contest.
