British starch plastic could beat immortal trash
British researcher Gerry Griffin of Brunel University, presenting at a convention, outlined a starch-plastic compound that forms a biodegradable plastic decaying a year after burial versus ten years for regular plastic. He noted the material biodegrades more in dumps or compost heaps and that Colerall Ltd. in London is seeking licenses to produce it. The discovery was accidental.
