Betty Friedan charged that the Watergate scandal is tied to efforts to derail ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Speaking on the Capitol steps during a suffrage anniversary rally, she alleged saboteurs disrupted ERA support across states and tied the Pussycat League to Watergate funding via Lucianne Goldberg.
