A nine member Maricopa County jury in Phoenix found ex convict Herbert Leroy Shockey guilty of murdering Mr and Mrs John Bertelli of Schererville New York. The couple were found Feb 24 in the desert near the Superstition Mountains about 40 miles east of Phoenix. The prosecution sought the death penalty. Shockey claimed innocence and raised questions about his sanity during the trial.
