Russian sun rocket thrust hints at space race lead
UPI reports a Czechoslovak article translated for the Commerce Department claims Russia’s Mechta sun satellite used a three stage rocket with a first stage potentially near 600,000 pounds thrust, far surpassing U.S. Pioneer IV. The piece notes Mechta’s orbit and exotic fuel use, and cites Glennan on Soviet rocket power ahead of the United States.
