Subsidence rates discussed at harbor board meeting
Hoffmaster reported a maximum subsidence rate of 1.19 feet per year at the Edison Co. plant, based on a spot check from 1950 to 1951 as part of a quarterly survey. Full survey results will be presented in about 30 days. The board also considered water injection plans for offshore parcels X and L in the Wilmington field, with an estimated capital cost of about 1.5 million dollars and seven wells capable of 100,000 barrels daily. Mayuga supported injection to restabilize the ground, while stressing the goal of reducing subsidence and air production. A full subsidence report is due September 15 before action on parcels K and L. The board also heard a protest from Howard Plowman of the Building Owners and Managers Assn. against the Van Camp Sea Food Co. project on Pier 4 East, seeking a hearing to discuss the impact of tax-funding on non-taxpaying competitors.
