Eight die as blaze sweeps hotel in Berkeley Springs
An early morning fire in Berkeley Springs West Virginia destroyed the Washington House Hotel and several nearby structures. Eight bodies were recovered and about a dozen people injured with five missing. 150 firefighters battled the blaze, which forced water from springs and pools and disrupted local telephone lines. The hotel, a 150 year old four story brick building, housed tourists and elderly residents. witnesses reported flames lighting the sky for miles. The cause was under investigation by a West Virginia fire marshal’s office.
