Mafia linked Kennedy Airport traveler's check theft
A sealed federal indictment names 25 suspects tied to an August 1970 theft of $407000 in American Express traveler's checks from Kennedy Airport. Probed by the FBI, the plot links the Luchese and Columbo families with "button man" Maurice Savino and others, with one defendant allegedly shot in a ditch near Monticello. Only about $28000 of the stolen funds were recovered, with arrests continuing.
