Cigarette Smoking Declines in U S for Second Time Since 1964
Government data show Americans smoked 543.5 billion cigarettes in the year ending June 30, a 0.28 percent drop from 545.1 billion in 1967. Surgeon General Dr. William Stewart called the decline a sign the anti smoking message is taking hold, though causes remain unclear and trade factors may play a role. Per capita use is estimated at 4,203 cigarettes for adults 18 plus.

Long Beach Library Film Unit Marks 20th Anniversary
