Mandelbaum Gate falls as Jerusalem unites traffic bottleneck clears
The Mandelbaum Gate, a 149 year old road barrier between Israeli and Jordanian Jerusalem, is being dismantled. Mayor Teddy Kollek says the city is now united and the gate’s removal widens the road for heavy traffic. The crossing previously served about 6000 Christian Arabs each Christmas for pilgrimages to Bethlehem and other holy sites.

War Veiled Buildup of Soviet Navy
US Ambassador to NATO said Moscow used the Middle East crisis to mask a major Soviet naval buildup in the Mediterranean. He cited an increase from 1963 to 1966 and reported 46 Soviet ships, including guided missiles cruisers and about 10 submarines, were active by last month with a 460 percent rise in naval operating days in early 1967 and nearly 2000 percent rise in submarine days since 1964.
