Texas style greeting marks Johnson Lebanon visit
Vice President Johnson arrives in Beirut for a one day goodwill tour with a Texas flag greeting. He praises ongoing US interests and independence of Lebanon while engaging with crowds, meeting President Chehab and Prime Minister Karame, and receiving a watermelon gift at a Marine staged “watermelon circle.” Johnson mentions support for Lebanon against external pressure and notes US Marines' previous 1958 presence.
