Old First Christian Church Seeks Youthful Revival in Long Beach
In Long Beach the aging First Christian Church on Locust Avenue and Fifth Street plans to attract younger worshippers. Pastor Michael Dixon, 31, promotes a TV program on Channel 40 filmed aboard the Queen Mary, revamped music, and stronger urban outreach while emphasizing the church’s role in the inner city. Dixon admires former pastor Dr George Primrose Taubman, who led the world’s largest Men’s Bible Class. The church, founded in 18% and rebuilt after the 1920 dome collapse and 1933 earthquake, remains a fundamentalist Congregational-leaning body and hosts ongoing community and educational initiatives.

Pastor tests Grace Church flock on Ten Commandments
Rev. Joseph S. Nunziato set a Bible quiz at Grace Methodist Church on Third Street and Junipero. Of 316 worshippers, seven wrote all Ten Commandments correctly while others erred with variations. Some listed eleven or mixed in Jesus Great Commandment, but the pastor called the results not a bad error.
