Air Force raises service term for pilots to five years
The Air Force said about 52 percent of current pilot trainees would accept a five year hitch, up from three. Officials cited brutal economic facts and costs of training as reasons, with non flying duties for those seeking only the minimum five year term. The change applies to aviation cadets at the Academy and ROTC graduates, with about $10,000 invested per pilot at the point of primary training.
