Chotiner admits hiring writer to shadow McGovern campaign
Murray Chotiner, former Nixon adviser, confirmed in Newport Beach that he hired a freelance writer to follow George McGovern last year and file daily reports on the Democratic candidate. He denied asking the writer Mrs Lucianne Cummings Goldberg to obtain “really dirty” material. Goldberg said she was told Nixon approved the plan, but she doubted its usefulness and said she did not share sensitive information.
